Congratulations! You have ascended to godhood.
STUFF ABOUT GODS
You're not the only one, of course. Gods ascend and disappear every day. They come from all kinds of worlds, have all kinds of shapes and sizes, and their duties range from overseeing the weather to blessing those who write their name in wet cement.
You may have ascended after death (the traditional way of going about things), or perhaps there was a hole in the pantheon that someone had to fill. In that case, you've been yanked into godhood while still alive, and when someone comes to naturally fill your spot, they'll let you go back to your life at that exact point. No harm done!
STUFF ABOUT WHERE THEY LIVE
Well, you can travel the universe, of course, taking mysterious forms as gods are wont to do, but it's nice to have somewhere to call home, right?
The plane known as the Radiant Plane is the realm of the gods. Part of it is under each god's jurisdiction to shape as they will: think of it as a really, really big bedroom in a dormitory - while the common area is filled with marble halls and lounge couches. Anything anyone could possibly want is probably in there somewhere, though it may be hard to find, and it may have tacky angel wings on it. (Even the vending machines.)
Any god can go anywhere in the Radiant Plane, though entering a god's private area can be dangerous if they don't get along with you: after all, they shape everything in the area, up to and including the ground you walk on.
STUFF ABOUT THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE
What about the mere mortals? They exist too, of course. They have their own little worlds that exist with their own rules of magic and physics, and the gods' job is to preside over one aspect of their lives.
For example. Remember that badass friendship speech in that series you like? The one that got everyone to pull themselves together and win the day? Thank Kamina, God of Inspiring Speeches. If he'd been slacking on the job that day, things would have been a whole lot worse.
As gods, the characters are free to enter any universe. They're not supposed to cause too much damage there, but 'too much' is a suspiciously vague term.
STUFF ABOUT PORTFOLIOS
As just-ascended gods, you probably won't be put in charge of anything too important just yet. God of life? Try god of midlife crises. Don't worry - as you spend more time as a god, your portfolio will naturally accumulate.
When gods disappear - they do, sometimes - their portfolio will go to another god, either an existing one or a newly-ascended one. (Of course, they may not be gods that are being played right now. If you want to kick around the God of Ashtrays, by all means.)
There's also talk that you can steal another god's spot... But who knows how to do that?
STUFF ABOUT WHO'S IN CHARGE
But is there a head god? There is. A small group of them, actually, though no one knows their numbers. They decide who ascends, who leaves, who gets what portfolio, and how things change in the realm of the gods as a whole.
They are called the Mods. They are rarely seen in person, and punishment from them is greatly feared.
